Rondinello Travel Brief | November 1
Published
This issue: why the calmest night of a big event is rarely Saturday, how to keep a group together in a dense crowd, ATP Finals week in Turin, four nights of light in Lyon, two odd city details, one Turin film, and a free itinerary planner for marking the busy nights before anyone books.
A tiny travel brief for group trips built around one big night out.
Free city events, light festivals, and market openings are at their most crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings. If the event runs into the week, give your group's main night to a Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday, and use the weekend for things that are worse midweek, like day trips and long lunches.
In a packed evening crowd, phones slow down and a group of six becomes three groups of two at the first crossing. Agree on one landmark, a time to check in, and who holds the shared tickets before anyone leaves the hotel.

Turin | 15-22 November 2026
The season-ending Nitto ATP Finals bring the year's top eight singles players and doubles teams to the Inalpi Arena, beside the Olympic Stadium south-west of the centre, with an opening show on 12 November. Even if your group is not going, expect fuller hotels and busier evenings that week: book central dinners ahead, and if you are going, plan the trip back from late sessions before the day starts.
Lyon | 5-8 December 2026
Lyon's free festival of light installations runs from Saturday 5 to Tuesday 8 December, growing out of the city's tradition of putting candles in the windows on 8 December. It is one of the busiest weeks of Lyon's year: book rooms now, save the Monday or Tuesday evening for the main walk, and expect slow, one-way crowds on the Presqu'île and up Fourvière hill.
