Check the city calendar
This issue: how one city event can push up a whole weekend's prices, the Thanksgiving squeeze, Vienna's Christmas market opening, Las Vegas race week, two odd city details, one Vienna film, and a free budget calculator for splitting the deposits.
A tiny travel brief for booking November and December trips before the big weeks fill up.
Check the city calendar before the group picks dates
One big event can fill hotels and close roads for a whole weekend. In the next month alone: the New York City Marathon closes streets across all five boroughs on Sunday 1 November, and Web Summit brings a conference crowd to Lisbon from 9 to 12 November. Look up your dates before the vote, not after the deposit.
Plan around Thanksgiving week
US Thanksgiving falls on Thursday 26 November this year, and the days around it are some of the busiest of the year for US flights and roads. If your group is flying in or out of the US that week, travel early in the day, leave long connections, and book airport transfers ahead.

Plan before prices and crowds move
Vienna | 13 November to 26 December 2026
Vienna's Christkindlmarkt opens and weekends fill fast
The Wiener Christkindlmarkt on Rathausplatz runs daily from 10:00 to 22:00, closing at 18:30 on 24 December, with the Eistraum ice rink alongside until 6 January. Friday and Saturday evenings are the busiest: visit on a weekday or late afternoon, book a nearby dinner before you go, and reserve rooms and trains for December weekends now.
How to plan around it
- Book the stay area before the group starts adding activities.
- Leave arrival and dinner buffers around peak event windows.
- Keep one flexible backup block in case crowds or transport timing changes.

Las Vegas | 19-21 November 2026
Las Vegas Grand Prix week will squeeze the Strip
Formula 1 races on a street circuit that uses part of the Strip, with sessions running into the night from Thursday to Saturday. Even if your group is not going, expect higher hotel prices, road closures, and slower rides around the center Strip that week: pick a base you can walk from, and check closures before booking dinners across the circuit.
How to plan around it
- Book the stay area before the group starts adding activities.
- Leave arrival and dinner buffers around peak event windows.
- Keep one flexible backup block in case crowds or transport timing changes.
